Canada’s first 100% solar condo building is open to the public!
Abondance Montreal: le Soleil is Canada’s first 100% solar powered triplex condo building. It uses the best approaches to eco-construction, including geothermal, solar thermal, and solar electric technologies.
Through Montreal’s cold winters and humid summers, the building will keep residents comfortable, with excellent indoor air quality and no energy bill! The project won awards from CMHC’s EQuilibrium™ Housing Initiative, the Net Zero Energy Home Coalition and the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois.
Only 1 Unit remains for sale in Le Soleil- contact us now- at 514-803-6681 to learn more. |
Press release: Abondance Le Soleil wins Inaugural Net-Zero Energy Award!
"Abondance Montreal - Le Soleil, Canadaʼs first 100% solar powered condominiums, located in the borough of Verdun, has won
the "closest to net-zero energy" production homebuilder of the year award in the national Net-Zero Energy Home Awards.
"The awards recognize innovative projects that are responding to a changing marketplace — one that is increasingly influenced
by homeowner concerns for energy security, climate change and health. Le Soleil is at the forefront of the movement to build
net-zero-energy homes, which produce as much energy as they consume on an annual net basis,” notes Cheryl Gladu, a
partner at Ecocité Developments. It is the only urban multi-family project among the 15 winners of CMHCʼs earlier EQuilibrium™
Healthy Housing for a Healthy Environment competition."...."

We tested the envelope of the Le Soleil Triplex, as this is a key part of reducing energy demands on the building. The tests were very positive. Compare the colour of the Le Soleil triplex (purplish) to it's neighbours (bright orange). This demonstrates that the Le Soleil triplex is considerably more insulated than conventional buildings - this means lower energy bills and more thermal comfort.
Note that around the windows there are signs of more leaks from the building (yellow marks). It is normal that windows and doors are more leaky than walls (they don't just let the sun in!), but by having done this test we are able to better seal the joints between the walls and windows to further increase the thermal performance of the building. |
