The Team Behind Abondance Montreal
Unlike a lot of today's top-down development projects, the Abondance Montreal project was, from the very beginning, a team effort. The design team came together in an organic fashion around a competition set forth by the CMHC to develop zero energy housing, now refereed to as EQuilibrium Housing. For many months we collectively undertook what is called an integrated design process (IDP), which included several design charrettes and weekly half day meetings in order to develop a Montreal-style triplex that produced as much energy as it consumed, while being both repeatable and relatively affordable. During this process we invited many additional participants - from municipal planners to solar energy specialists - to advise us on our design, and the result is something we are very happy to start building in the near future: the first of many net-zero energy triplexes.
